This goat has just won the award for best meat goat. Not an award you want when you’re a goat. She’d have rather won dairy goat. She had figured out how to escape and was working on a plan as we cam by.

Here is a video on clipping a Boer goat.

Now are you in 4 H? Who is your leader?

You are probably going to show this goat in a showmanship class and in the meat pen. The correct spelling of a castrated male goat is Wether. Even though this is a dairy goat breed, you can only show a male in meat pen.

Each area has specific guidelines for how they want the animals clipped but I usually use a number 10 blade to clip the whole body, but not below the legs. You should clip against the hair growth and this should be done about 10 days before the show. You need to clip the face and ears really well and square off the tail hairs. It is easier to show you how than to explain how to shave your goat. If you are showing with a group of people, ask someone in your group how they are clipping and see if you can help them. If this is your first time, there are many other tips you should know before your first show. Read from the links I have provided and watch the video. Fun

Hope this has been helpful and have a really good time at your show.
