  1. put some paper on top so it can decay but also put some bread, take a spray bottle and stir up the dirt and spray daily depending on the amount of worms you might want to get a bigger bucket

  2. I raise and sell canadian night-crawlers here in BC. I raise up my night-crawlers in my waste food compost bins outside. One of the secrets to raising big healthy worms is to make sure your compost has equal amounts of carbon and nitrogen based materials. Banana peels, fruit peelings, old bread, cooked left over rice, a few coffee grounds are a few carbon materials. Used paper towels, dried leaves and stems are good nitrogen based materials. After a period of time I cull through big balls of worms picking out the big boys and transfer them to holding bins before selling. My holding bins are a couple of old 100qt ice chest that I buried level with the ground to keep the compost dirt and worms inside them cool. I keep fresh compost dirt in my holding bins but you can use potting soil or a decent grade of dirt from the yard. Your best dirt will be nice and loose and not all full of hard clay. In my bins I will throw in a few fruit peelings, dried leaves on the top, mist with water just to keep moist and keep em covered up. Feel free to email me for more info if needed. 40yr exp
