Question by swhelan007: How do you cook a fresh turkey never cooked a fresh one before?
A friend is giving me a turkey he raise at his farm and I always had frozen turkeys before.

  2. the traditional way is to place in baking tray with slices of bacon a small amount of goose fat and cook till golden brown
    to get more portions from the bird you can bone the turkey and cook the joints in the same way . its much easier to slice a 25 lb bird would give 50 portions or 2 to the pound .

  3. i put them in a cooking bag the night before the dinner,and set the oven on 250,just let it cook all night……

  4. That is great that someone thought well of you to give you a fresh turkey.

    If you will rub your turkey with olive oil, butter, or oil and then put the turkey. in a turkey basting bag. It will be moist and fall off the bone.
