Do I need to have my meat processed at a meat packing plant and then sold from my farm?

  1. My best guess is to just call your local food and drug office or just call the city office and have them direct you or call another farm in the area that sells their products or go to a local farmers market and ask meat vendors there what to do. Good luck.

  2. Best person to ask is your local county extension agent. They would know who and where exactly to ask.

  3. Yes, have your meat processed at a USDA inspected meat processing plant. Then you can sell it from your farm. It needs to be USDA inspected.

    The USDA is very particular about that. I grew up raising rabbits. You can sell meat rabbits if you sell under x number of them a year. But you can’t process the meat. If the meat is processed in any way it has to be USDA inspected.

    And if it is USDA inspected that can also save your hide in case someone gets sick from eating it and wants to sue you.
