Just a touch over when I put it under the broiler to brown the top. I still anticipate tastiness.
Question by Catherine: How can I make some nice chinese style chicken drumsticks?
I have been volunteered to cook for my boyfriend and his parents this weekend (I know, how nice), and I would like to cook chicken drumsticks with a chinese style marinade. Any tips, advice or easy recipes please?? Many thanks!
Feel free to answer in the comment section below
This is how my mom makes it:
Chop onion and garlic fine, fry in little oil, then add chicken, fry until brown, then add soy sauce, add a little syrup for stickiness, you can also add coke and let it cook in the coke until dry and sticky.
Hope it make sense.

Ingredients:
2 lbs Chicken drumsticks
(for pre-cooking)
2 stalks green onions
2 cloves garlic, halved and smashed
2-3 slices of fresh ginger peel (from marinade)
3 tablespoons Sake (Japanese or Chinese rice wine)
salt and pepper to taste
(for marinating)
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ginger, grated
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons sesame oil
1 teaspoon chinese chilli sauce (sold in Asian section of supermarkets)
pepper to taste
cilantro for garnish
Directions:
1. Lay chicken in a large skillet or saute pan. Add pre-cooking ingredients, close lid and turn on heat to medium. Once liquid starts to boil turn heat to low and ‘steam’ for 30 min or until well done. Remove liquid and herbs.
2. While chicken is steaming, mix together marinating ingredients.
3. Add chicken to marinade while still hot. Let it sit for 30 min or longer if preferred.
4. Set Broiler or Grill to high. Cook both sides for 6-7 min each.
5. Serve with chopped cilantro

Hi Catherine
You could try a sweet chilli sauce, you make this by firstly cooking some chopped onion and your chicken in a little oil till golden, then finely chop garlic, ginger and fresh red chillies, and add to the mix, you can use soy sauce for seasoning. Then add some honey, shortly after, as you don’t want to burn your garlic, this will make it very sticky, make sure your chicken legs are covered and bake for about 20mins, turning half way. This will make the honey go extra sticky and the make sure your chicken is cooked though.

Try this recipe which is perfect for drumsticks. It is a chicken stew with a dark lemony gravy and it is simply delicious (note – it has nothing to do with “lemon chicken” you find in Chinese restaurants which is deep fried and coated in a yellow sauce)
