Note: not raised for large breast size, ultra lean, this bird can fly.
Question by makingthisup: How can I make my turkey come out moister?
I use the cooking bag, but my husband just informed me, that the last couple of years they’ve been a little dry. Help.

cooking bag coat the turkey with butter and dont forget to baste it that gives you the chance to steal some skin

he is a little slow on the comments eh ?? Try cooking the breast side down 4 the 1st hour then turn over 2 finish the rest of the time

Don’t use the bag, use a baster and baste it with the turkey juices every half hour or so. (That’s how I do it and it makes it so moist, it almost melts in your mouth).

All turkeys will get a little dry, it’s the nature of the meat. It’s only the first couple of slices that are carved that are moist. Once the bird is opened, it will loose moisture rapidly. You can try to retain the moisture by foiling during dinner, though I have found that to be futile hope. Turkey is naturally dry.

It sounds like you may be over cooking, use a shallow pan, and the last hour cover the breast with bacon slices.

A good cooking trick:
When baking, things dry out. so, on the shelf underneath the turkey, put in a pan of water. what it does it it evaporates when it gets hot, moistening the turkey. Happy Thanksgiving

Use an accurate meat thermometer. And ask your husband if he would like to cook next year.
You can also cover the bird with cheesecloth soaked in butter and baste regularly.

pat the turkey with cold butter/margarine, stuff one peeled large onion inside the turkey, wrap with foil.
Time according to weight, but lower the temperature 25 degrees for a slow cook, don’t drain the juices until it is done.
Soft, moist, turkey…….

Bake at a lower temp for a longer period of time,basting often, every 30 min. or so and keep covered until about the last 30-45
min. . Then uncover raise & temp. to brown

Soak the turkey in a brine (salt solution) before hand.
