Question by : How can I keep chickens in my backyard?
I live in a somewhat populated area ( a few miles north of Detroit ) and I want to keep some chickens. Do I need a permit?

  1. ask the people in your neighborhood. if you have a community center somewhere nearby, ask them. Does your neighborhood have a listserv? If so, you could ask on that. Or maybe there is a Detroit Community website. Any of those options should help.

  3. Check your towns Dept. of Commerce. Usually you CAN have hens in the city but no roosters!
