just like humans, who only have one queen/king at a time. colony is the
name given to all the bees living in the hive, a collective noun for social
insects. “hive” and “colony” are the same word really when talking about

Queen bees develop from fertilized eggs in the largest cells in the hive.
Larva destined the egg to become a queen bee. When the egg becomes larva
the workers feed it with the royal jelly through the entire larval stage.
Unlike worker bees and the drone, their larvae are fed royal jelly for only
three days.

Bees are amazing creatures. It is common misunderstanding they are honey
collectors, but their most important role is pollination. When beekeper
transports his bees into orchard, the owner of orchard should pay him
because he can count on better profit…
