  1. I can imagine in the winter there would be heat loss through a metal tank in the wind. Maby some kind of clear glass box, maby double pane, to put it in, or some kind of plastic greenhouse construction. The other alternative is to put insulation around it, probably some kinds of foam/fiberglass board. An array of Fresnel lens and coils can make the water hotter faster. For the metal block kind of material at the focus, I wonder if anyone makes copper or even cast iron with the carbon on it.
