You would be lucky to get a 2 kW installation for less than $ 20,000.

Cost is 15 to 20 thousand dollars for 2kw flush mount system placed on roof. You will qualify for a thirty percent fed tax credit for system and site preperation costs. You may also qualify for additional credits from you state and electric utility.
My electric utility provided a four dollar per watt rebate for a professionally installed system. So do not think that DIY is a guarantee for saving money as it can disqualify you from some rebates.
First thing that you do need to check on is you local building codes and zoning requirements. My city placed lots of restrictions on ground mounted systems which prompted me to have a roof mount installation.
Generally the systems are easy to design. Panels and inverters(s) are selected based upon voltage and wattage ratings. Inverter type is selected based on whether or not you want grid tie or battery based system and if you system is islandable.
You will need a licensed electrician to make the interconnect to your power panel and install a utility disconnect if required.
Rebates and tax credits can account for anywhere from 30 to 75 percent of your system cost. Further, you can register a qualified system for SREC credits that can provide roughly $ 500 per year income.

We will miss some important details, so you should look at some other peoples’ installations. You should mount your solar panels on your South facing roof. South West facing will help the environment just as much as South, but you will not get much power before 10 am. On the ground, thieves will steal your expensive panels, and children will play on them. A very steep roof will give you good results in December. 20 degrees is optimum for Southern India, for total energy for the year. Don’t put panels where they will be shaded between 10 am and 3 pm. Remember that shadows are longer in November, December and January. You may be required to have a professional installation to get tax credits or other government assistance. If you will do this yourself, I suggest you start with one panel, a battery, and an inverter so, errors are less costly. You won’t need a charge controller unless you use no electricity from the battery, some weeks. 12 volt deep cycle batteries, 100 or a bit more amp-hours are the best buy in the USA. Neil
