John… that was an a great informative video. I like the unscripted, spontaneous and lighthearted way you teach, share learn and most importantly inspire others. I hope people heard loud and clear your comment about getting up every day and loving what you do! Thank you for sharing your food and soul discoveries.

get the grate at coastal hardware its cattle fence too.
I just finished building a gorilla-rack worm bin based on the one in this video. The bottom grille was the most difficult part to figure out. I don’t think what you see in this video is just animal fencing. It’s the stuff they use for big metal pallets. I ended up using the steel mesh that is used for concrete–available and cheap at the big box stores. The holes in the mesh were too big, so i made a double layer, crossing the top mesh over the bottom, and fixing the two together with zip ties.
I suppose if they are there to buy nice soil they might pick one up instead of going elsewhere, and just pay whatever. They are the only ones that can explain the rationale, but I suspect it is somehow worth it to them in the final analysis. Hey I’m with you, I’d make it myself. But good to see businesses like that selling useful things to people, especially amid all the “Black Friday” nonsense going on this month.
I dont follow your thinking. A pre-cut over priced version or a DIY version both require assembly. And one still has to drive to a store to procure/buy either version.
That book they wrote is such a good and very interesting read btw. I’m almost at the end & have learned so much about what goes on in soil, its really fascinating! Teaming with Microbes.
Good points! But John’s enthusiasm is infectious. He has sparked interest in growing food and provided info that many who watch his videos would not have found on their own. It may be entertainment as much as information, but at least those who watch are learning something. Best to you, John, and the Viewers.
Rodale dot kom offers a handbook with the “microorganisms” poster on its cover. Offered by Dr. Ingham who created it. It explains everything in depth.
pls.im guessing that “down-to-Earth people” who like 2 do things naturally, r a wee bit slower-paced than how FAST the presentation is presented. The people who prefer hyped-up versions of ‘infomercials’ are a different breed. people who enjoy making their own food, cooking products, n food-storage methods, r probably not into ‘hyper’ presentations. thinking u will find my comment offensive-im trying 2b helpful.i think u have great ideas…but could use helpful comments on ur presentations.
Yeah, right. The basement of the home he owns with his yard full of organic produce? Hm. I get the impression that you’re a *HATER* that wishes you could be like him WHEN YOU GROW UP. IJS Keep your day job because a comedian you will never be,..
You don’t have to watch or subscribe if you don’t like what you see. Better keep “your impression” to yourself. John is very low-profile and down to earth… he has many bodyguards in a special task force protecting him when he’s on a speaking engagement tour and defending him from tiny-minded individual like you!

Those are Louver Vents. I have them in my homemade greenhouse that I use for starting seeds indoors.

Those vents in that worm bucket are soffit vents. You can find them at any home improvement center in their HVAC department.

yet there are alot of people in Marin who make more money than that in the time it would take to procure and assemble that wire!
