Question by Scott T: Getting rid of pigeons in an urban area?
About six pigeons have started living on my roof near the attic window. I want to get rid of them. I put up chicken wire but they still just sit on top of the wire. I also tried putting my cat in the attic during the day (don’t worry, I live in a cool climate so there’s no danger to the cat) to scare them away but after a day when they realized the cat can’t get to them they returned. Any ideas to get rid of them permanently? P.S. I live in a big city so shooting them is not an option, nor will humane traps work because the roof is steeply angled.

you could try searching online for other options or call animal control, but getting rid of pigeons is very difficult to do….my dad had pigeons when he was little and the used to let them free durring the day and they ALWAYS came back, because that was their home

I had a similar problem on my terrace. First, be aware they carry mites and you and your cat can get them. They aren’t dangerous, but very annoying.
After almost a year of trying every silly gizmo available, someone suggested spraying them with WD-40. I did and it only took a few days for them to decide to move on. Everytime I saw them I would spray it in the general direction. They don’t like the smell. (It is also not lethal to them so I didn’t have to feel guilty.)
Just be sure they don’t nest or lay eggs there or you will never get rid of them. Good Luck

I had the same problem, I took my water hose full force and sprayed them for a couple of days, no more pigeons, and it was safe.
