You did not have enough hay in this batch. One square bale of hay and one of straw. Then fill up with silage. That’s the perfect formula.
What I don’t understand is why do you need to feed them cut grass when they have a whole pasture full of grass already? Feeding hay or a mixture i get but not the cut grass part..
To benefit the most, you need a good mixture of Silage, Baled Grass Hay, and Baled Straw Hay (usually 1 scoop Silage+2 Bales each of Hay). A lot of people get the Square Baled hay confused, you can square bale (or Round bale) grass (cut from anywhere, dried by tedder and windrowing). or grown and harvested in a purchased field. Straw is left behind as a by-product from harvesting Wheat, Canola or Barley, and is already Windrowed for you by the harvester, just run your hay baler over the rows..
You will need to harvest some corn with a Cutter instead of a Header. You want to cut the Corn to Chaff and empty that into your Silage pit. Cut grass will work also (Don’t run a Tedder through it or Windrow it, because it will dry to hay) just cut the grass with mower load it green and dump it in the Silage pit.
