  2. I have noticed a few of your issues could be rectified by “Companion Planting”. I discovered a book published by Mother Earth News.titled ” The Abundant Vegetable Garden”. I picked it up at a yard sale and it now has turned into my new vegetable bible. I swear by companion planting…It does work….The main Super Defender, as I call it, is the Marigolds. I put Giant ones at the corners of my gardens and I have no issues with bugs.

  5. Donna have you ever tried planting zucchini? I just can’t get enough of that. Lately I’ve been dehydrating quite a few vegetables because I have too much shade to grow a garden. So I buy from local farmers markets. I ran across a very interesting lady here on youtube. Her channel is dehydrate2store and I bought the dehydrator that she uses and now I still water bath and pressure can food for winter and long term storage but I will probably put up more veges with the dehydrator.

  6. Trimmings get in mine too! Doesn.t seem to be a problem as long as the grass or weeds are not setting seed. If a weed is setting seed, I remove it by hand befroe trimming. Don’t worry about the grass cuttings. I love to plant kale and lettuce in the fall. Cilantro, parsely, brocolli, and fennel do well also. My nasturiums (wrong spelling – edible flower) did well too and they are great in a salad. thansk for watching!

  7. I hate having to edge around my square foot garden because all the trimmings get in the garden…is this a problem that you worry about? thanks for the updates. I have trimmed everything back and would love suggestions for what to plant for fall..I am in Houston, Texas..so we have pretty much the same weather I think.

  8. Hi! I cut the peppers into slices and put them on a cookie sheet. I let them freeze on the sheet for about 4 hours, then I transfer them to a zip lock bag. They keep all through the winter for my pepper and kale soup! Thanks for watching!

  9. How do you put up your peppers for the freezer? You mentioned it in the video and I was wondering since I have a few pepper plants. Awesome garden, have watched every single one!

  13. I like to harvest the beans when the pod is not too “pointy” at the end. It is nice when it is filled out. I like to steam them. Buy a steamer basket at the grocery store or dept store. It is round and expands when you put it into a pot. Put the beans on top onf the basket, add about 1 inch of water in the pot, cover, and turn on high heat. You will have yummy, steamed veggies in about 5 minutes!

  17. I was happy to see another of your videos. Have you gotten any edible asparagus, or are you still a year away? Too bad about your melons. My wife and I just finished eating one of ours. So much better than the store. Keep up the good work Donna. You are an inspiration.
