Good goat farming requires keeping goats in good health. It only requires having the right information.
In fact, basic goat care is actually pretty simple, sometimes trivial, but never too tricky or tedious. All it takes is practical know-how and common sense.
Do not try to raise goats and sheep the same. Keeping goats is not the same as keeping sheep.
Do not use sheep feed for feeding goats or the other way around. Always read the nutrition labels on the feed sacks.
Never feed bucks or wethers with grain products, which in raw form cannot be tolerated by their metabolism. If you feel and see that the your bucks require supplementation, make sure to consult a veterinarian, who would recommend grain pellet feed specifically for bucks.
A good supplement to give you goat is dry oatmeal. Goats love treats of all kinds. They are especially found of leaves and branches. They really like the more flavorful ones. However, make sure not to overdo giving treats since it can be dangerous to their health.
Fresh hay is one of the best feeds you can give your goat. Your goat will need less supplements with green grass and hay. This feed is much higher in nutrients than brown feed.
Do not forget to provide clean fresh water in a clean bucket. During winter, the water should be ice free.
Goats need minerals and lots of them. Keeping mineral blocks available for them is good goat farming. Don’t forget the salt. Keep a salt block available for their use.?
Keep does fed on a well balanced grain feed. It gives does added nutrients & minerals needed to stay healthy and helps in having healthy offspring.
It is easy to feed your does with grain. So always watch your animal?s condition to determine how much or how little they may need. It is important to supplement the diet of lactating mothers with additional protein for their kids.
Be reminded that hoof trimming is necessary every 4 to 6 weeks, to keep your animal from developing hoof rot or leg and hoof issues.
For maximum health, keep your goats vaccinated yearly for tetanus and other vaccines.
Watch your goat during feed time. If they are not running for dinner, they may be ill.
Another tip at watching your goat?s condition is to check their coat. A coarse, dull, or thin coat can give you many clues from stomach or intestine parasites to nutrient deficiency.
If their legs are bending in or back, it could be a sign of bad nutrition.
These are but some of the basic goat care ideas of which many may not be aware. Keeping goats can be fun and easy when you have the right information.
