  2. It probably depends on the city you live in. The link I looked at for a city in Australia has certain circumstances in which you need a permit of some sort to own chickens, especially if you have a rooster, probably something to do with them controlling who breeds chickens!

  4. It depends on your local council – you will need to contact them and find out. It also depends on the size of your property.

  5. Well first you can take query from animal rights welfare. (Queensland)
My suggestion is if you can arrange a suitable cage with 3D dimension that can protect from cats and dogs and rain.

  6. There are most likely restrictions on how many chooks you can keep, and whether you are allowed a rooster or not, but I am sure that you would be able to keep them in Hervey Bay.
Its been a few years since I was there- but my cousins used to have quite the collection of chooks, ducks, and even had a rooster when they were living there.

The rules about how many animals you can keep are decided by your local council- so definately get in touch with your local shire office- or even chat to a ranger (council ranger) about your local laws to see if there are any restrictions on how many birds you can keep.
Our local council only permits you to keep 3 hens, and no roosters (unless you dont have neighbours)
I dont think you would have to pay for any permits to keep them.
You would definately want to ensure that they are kept in a secure pen- not only would they need to be protected from cats and dogs- but it is very likely that they would try to eat cane toads- so they need to be protected from these poisonous pests, as well.
