Question by Deenie: Did any of you ever raise ducks?
Our ducks layed a lot of eggs..but didn’t hatch them. Is that common? They’re Duclair ducks ,I think.(came from the pond behind us..raised there from eggs) Are they supposed to sit on them or what? We finally had to throw them into the pond. And what kind of shelter do ducks need in the winter in N. Fl. (It does freeze here sometimes) We’re new to this. Thanks.

it really depends on the type of duck. some ducks to just randomly lay eggs like chickens. yeah they are supposed to sit on them like regular birds. if the eggs are not kept warm they will die. i wouldnt have thrown them away. you never know when they are going to hatch. some types take longer then others.
and for in the cold seasons just get them a dog house and a heat lamp. they should do fine
