Joel Salatin, owner of Polyface Farm gives our class a tour of the farm, explaining his methodology and reasoning along the way. He also explains why the methods used on his farm are more sustainable, safe and productive than methods used by modern agribusiness in today’s food production. Afton Field Farms and a neighboring farm in Corvallis OR practice this Salad Bar Beef farming. Tyler, who with his wife, operate Afton Field Farms Studied under Joel at Polyface and Joel comes there every other year. I saw him there for a field day in August. WONDERFUL man and so warm and full of life and love and appreciation.

- See the Polyface site for info. See if a sustainable/ organic/ regenerative farm operation near you is open to taking you on as an apprentice, or as an employee. Joel Salatin is charismatic & has received a lot of publicity, but there are other equally skilled eco-farmers out there, farming ‘outside the box’. Some are every bit as much ‘Jeffersonian intellectual agriculturists’ as Salatin. It’s also interesting & useful to see how some vary in theire methods.
