Question by crystal m: Can you keep chickens in your back yard in an urban area in Texas ? i will give you best answer if you help me?
please answer because i have 10 day old eggs in the incubator and i am hoping to keep them so i can get free eggs about every day also do you know how to get a rooster to be Quiet like putting a rubber band around their beak or putting them in a sound proof room
well i was watching a show they said putting a rubber band around their beak is good and i don’t know if its true please help me

  1. Generally,livestock is illegal in an urban area.

  2. putting a rubber band around their beak is cruel, and they will be unable to eat. Perhaps if you get any males, you can give them to a farm where they can run free and be with the chickens.

    It’s best for them to run free in your backyard since they get fresh air, sunlight, and they will eat bugs on the ground, although you will need to get some proper chicken feed for them.

    I would call up someone at city hall or the ‘department of fish and game’ or something of the like for the city/county you are in, they should be able to give you a proper answer.
