Dee gave us two dozen fresh eggs while we were there, the hens just started laying again, they stopped in November so we lucked out! The boys were just fascinated with this whole experience. I’m sure we will be back often to help feed chickens and collect eggs 🙂

Question by Miss Kat: Can you feed chickens seaweed?
I am considering rainsing laying hens and I live near a private beach. As a suppliment can I feed them seaweed? Wet or Dry? Fresh or rinsed? What about other beachy things like bugs? Could I let them roam a little along the water?

  4. Yes, chickens are actually scavangers. They eat anything. They can even eat stinky, yucky, bacteria ridden garbage and not get sick. Our chickens rumage through the compost pile, which is basically leftover everything and love it! The more variety foods your chickens eat, the more healthy they are. Just make sure seaweed is only a suppliment and not the only food they eat. They also love insects, bugs, worms and anything that moves that can be eaten. Ours even eat small salamanders when they find them. If you let them free range around your yard, they will lay the very best eggs in the world! We will never eat store bought eggs again.
