Working outside at the picnic table and the chickens decided to join me.
Question by tarabean7: Can I raise urban chckens in the city of Medford Oregon?
I want to raise two hens, no roosters in my backyard. I can not find anywhere where the laws regarding this idea are located in the Jackson County laws and regulations. Two hens are allowed in Portland, but need to know about Medford laws regarding chickens dwelling in the city limits. I can call in on Monday, but maybe some smart person can find it under all of the pages of rules before then…

depends on your zoning. See the planning department.
In Portland there are very limited areas when Chickens are allowed.
If your zoning begins with a R and/or you have less than an acre of land, my guess is that they are not allowed.

If you live in an Exclusive Agriculture overlay district, you can grow livestock. Sounds like you do not. But since the legal definition of livestock there does not include chickens, you might be able to even if you live in town.
The nuisance factor would have to be low (no rooster crowing only one or two birds?. You do not want the neighbors to complain.

Q: Are chickens allowed in Medford?
A: Yes. Chickens are allowed in Medford but with conditions: the environment they are kept in must be kept odor and debris free; and the chickens cannot cause a noise disturbance to neighboring properties.
I found this on the city website. Here’s the URL:

Hope this helps
