Question by RBCats: Can I have chickens (with a rooster) in my backyard, in Hawaii?
hey, I was thinking of getting chickens. we live in Montreal (in montreal, it’s not legal to have chickens), but we are thinking of moving to Hawaii. Is it legal to have chickens in my backyard?

  1. It depends on where you live. Many cities have ordinances against having farm animals within the city limits so you have to check with the particular city that you are moving to. Some cities will permit you to have a few hens for egg lay purposes, but they do restrict the number and it can be only hens.

  2. I have no idea…but it’s illegal to have chickens where i am too, but I still have them 🙂 6 hens–they stay relativly quiet and no one can see them where I placed their coop and run. Don’t get a rooster unless you really want to have baby chicks. They grow up into mean rotten brats and can really hurt someone. AND THEY ARE LOUD. The hens do fine by themselves.
