Question by jbarnicoatmsw: Can I feed my chickens food that my parrots have left behind?
I mean, like the beans and corn and stuff they usually like but sometimes leave. also, what about the stuff that has been chewed? parrots don’t eat skins of anything, usually and I throw away a lot. the parrots don’t have saliva and the chewed up stuff is just sort of “beaked.” so I was wondering if the chickens could catch any avian diseases?

Yes you can……..
Just as long as its not rotten or mouly it will kill them.

I wouldn’t, personally. You run a risk of bacteria being present in the food. It’s quite possible that your parrot’s beak has touched its droppings, or who knows what, and that can transmit foreign diseases or viruses to the chicken, even if the parrot isn’t ill. You’re better off buying or ordering feed for your chickens.

Chickens eat everything … even if it is found in a pile of their own poop. Don’t worry …. they will love to clean up after the parrot!

Chickens are pretty tough. You can feed them all that, but they probably won’t eat it all. They’re picky eaters sometimes.

yes you can give it to them. Our chickens eat the corn out of cow poop so I don’t think they will mind previously beaked grain. If they don’t want it they wont eat it. Simple as that. If they are free range I am sure they have had much worse. I just wouldn’t feed them a gob of it at a time.
