Question by Kelly: Can chickens be classed as domestic animals?
I am considering getting bantam chickens for my backyard and I know you can only have upto 5 domestic animals. Do chickens get classed as domestic animals?

  1. Yes. You may be allowed chickens, but perhaps not a rooster within city limits.

  2. Yes of course they are, and they come under all the same laws and regulations about feeding and husbandry as any other domestic livestock.

  3. Yes chickens are domesticated, but depending where you live they might be considered livestock (even in your backyard) and are not allowed. Most places are changing their rules to allow small backyard flocks, just look into it on your cities zoning sites it is probably fine.

  4. Chickens are considered livestock or farm animals.
Call your local animal warden and ask what the regulations are on keeping chickens in the city.
