We stopped at the L.T. Organic Farm and Restaurant in Waukee, Iowa, on the way back from Colorado.

The full story about the farm can be read on my blog.

Question by Angelgaspar61: Can be organic all the agriculture in the world?
With organic I mean agriculture without synthesis fertilizers or plagicides
I want to know if it could sustain all the population of the world

  1. no.

watch the population in 19th century, the last time humans were not using fertilisers massively.
the earth did not inflate since then.
humans have problems feeding population even with fertilisers and GMOs

  2. Check out Showtime’s website and watch Penn & Teller’s Bull Sh*t.

If we didn’t use modern farming methods, over one billion people would die because we simply wouldn’t be able to feed the worlds population any other way. Some people might argue that that is the way it should be but I guarantee you the people that say that wouldn’t be the ones starving!

  3. “The debate over whether organic farming could sustain the world’s rapidly growing population is heating up. The United Nations estimates that the world population will increase from 6.6 billion in 2008 to 9.2 billion by 2050, demanding farming methods that produce high yields in a short period of time.”

It’s a highly debatable issue, but in my personal opinion, no it couldn’t. Synthetic fertilizers and pesticides are probably the safest they’ve ever been and the yields to crops are higher. With organic farming, you’re relying mainly on natural forces to feed your crops and little to no use of pesticides to keep bugs from infecting the produce.
