Question by MsLaterDays: Can a 8 week old chihuahua drink evaporated milk?
My chihuahua is currently drinking goat milk
I have had her for 5 days

Please be nice, I really am not sure what to feed her.
@Difereny thank you for being nice….first of all your comment didn’t make sense because you said I should feed her evaporated milk. Then you said I shouldn’t feed her milk at all.I am doing my best to take care of her…..

  2. First of all why do you have this dog ????? Weaned kittens , let alone puppies shouldnt be drinking Evaporated milk at that !!!!!!! Go and get some real puppy food high quality puppy food or cheap for now . Then you should give the dog to someone who will take care of it or surrender it to a rescue !!!! You do not need this puppy !!! it shouldnt be given milk at ALL !!!!!

Maybe i was a little to harsh but do go buy some puppy food please , dogs cant take milk like some cats can . Most cats cant even take milk after so long i promise you it will pay off in the future if you buy her some puppy food !

  3. Goat milk is better than cow’s milk but a pup that has been weaned should not be drinking any milk. Feed the pup a quality food labeled for puppies or all stages of life (ASL). The good brands do not contain grain. Canidae, Innova/EVO, Taste of the Wild, Blue Buffalo Wilderness, Wellness Core.

  4. If you are working on switching her from milk to puppy food consider grabbing some powdered packages of puppy milk that are packed with good vitamins. When you start her on dry puppy food, you may have to add a small amount of water to the food and heat it up a bit in the microwave. It is easier to chew and digest this way, plus it makes the food smell very appetizing for them! You should also go to the puppy aisle at the pet shop and get the puppy vitamin paste. They seem to really enjoy this gooey stuff, and it has a lot of vitamins they need. Take her into the vet asap to start getting her shots, and do not let her play with other dogs until after she is fully vaccinated. I know it seems like a lot of money on shots, but your puppy can contract parvo and other diseases from dogs who may not have symptoms. Unfortunately parvo is a leading cause of death for puppies so you want to be really safe. Good luck! Puppies can be hard work but they are just so darn cute!

  5. Cows’ milk isn’t good for a puppy in any form. At 8 weeks, it should be eating a dry puppy chow. Any of the common brands should be fine. Dogs that are going to develop food allergies will just develop allergies to what ever is in th grain free ones if you feed them.

Any changes in diet should be made slowly over a week. Soften the puppy chow at first with water if you have to.
