Allen Smith’s ranch. Their journey starts here. On Smudge and Squeak: Defenders of the Flock, two Anatolian Shepherds must learn to follow their instincts and go from adorable puppies to dependable working dogs. Will they learn the ropes and become the defenders of Moss Mountain Farm, or will they just take a really adorable nap? A farm wouldn’t be a farm without the animals Smudge and Squeak will eventually learn to protect. From sheep to chickens to donkeys, there are a lot of helping paws, claws and hooves at P. Allen Smith’s Garden Home Retreat. In 2009, inspired by a childhood spent on the farm raising and showing livestock and poultry, Allen Smith founded the Heritage Poultry Conservancy, an organization dedicated to the preservation and support of all threatened breeds of domestic poultry. P. Allen Smith is an award-winning designer and lifestyle expert and host of two public television programs, P. Allen Smith’s Garden Home, P. Allen Smith’s Garden to Table and the syndicated 30-minute show P. Allen Smith Gardens. More from Allen: www.youtube.com

Actually from a working dog point of view, getting a dog from a certified breeder is a better idea. You need dogs that are bred for being outdoors rather than indoors and if you can see the parents you get a better idea of your future dog’s temperament. If you aren’t going for a dog with a specific purpose outside of being a companion then I agree with you completely.
