6 watermelon and 6 cantaloupe. 12 pineapples. When I first started that is how my melons grew too, it probably a product of soil and watering schedule. Also, never expect store bought sized melon. Melons are notoriously the most heavily fertilized produce next to corn and tomatoes.
Longer Answer: Don’t forget that bed has pineapple cactus interplanted between the melons. Because use a modified square foot garden method (a plant at the least every foot) you could say that I water each square foot with a gallon of water. Then I try to interplant as many vegetables in that square foot as possible.
so there are only 6 plants? my watermelons dies off when they reach golfball size or a small orange. and the sugar baby stayed the same size as a large grapefuit. must be my soil.
Long answer: I always water 1 gallon of water at a time, and change the frequency of days according to the weather. I watered only on Sundays up until about May. Also, because it rains in Arizona so seldom, I never adjust my watering schedule for rain fall.
Short answer: 1 gallon of water per plant every 2 days. It is starting to cool off just a hair and get more humid in Arizona so I will change that to every 3 days probably on Sept. 1.
Finding watermelons on the vine is almost like finding easter eggs… you can walk right by for days then all of a sudden it catches your eye.. Great Video!
