Aquaponics system help.?

im thinking about getting into Aquaponics but need a little info, so iv done so research and im going with the flood and drain system because i don’t have much room, im trying to find the cheapest way to do this now for the main fish tank can any one recommend the cheapest option or a cheaper one im hoping there’s one out there because not to keen on pay $ 400 for one it only needs to be 1 to 2m in diameter and 60cm or around there high? where can i get barramundi or silver perch fingerling’s in far north queensland? and with the flood and drain im worried about root rote and all that sort of stuff, in designs the outlet pipe is raised to determine the water level how does the water below that drain ? thanks for your answers 🙂

  1. for the drain its called an auto siphon,but if your doing flood and drain you use two pipes when the pump is off the water will come back down the fill pipe,once the fill pipe is connected to the bottom of your grow bed the fill pipe should be no more than 1″ above the bottom of the grow bed and the second should be half way up so when the pump is on it don’t over fill the grow bed or drain all the water from the fish tank.

    as for getting stuff not sure i can help im in ireland.but you can use any kinda tank i put my first system together for e50 go to you local plumbing suppliers they’ll know how to help and i just got gold fish until i knew what i was doing.
