  1. My electric bill is about $2.71 a month per system to keep the pumps on.
So, to get a $500 savings would take me about 15.3 years to break even. We
rarely have outages and I just stop feeding the fish if the pumps go off so
the fish use very little oxygen. I love using solar whenever I can, but
that’s just not in the budget right now.

  2. I don’t check ammonia levels or pH anymore. So, I can’t tell you if it’s
cycled or not. All I know is that the fish aren’t dying, they’re giving
birth, and I’m getting close to 2lbs of tomatoes a day from 1 and 1/2 of
the 3 grow beds. I’m using the other space to test random plants to see
    what does well.

  4. I found my tilapia in Clarksville. The person had volunteered with a
ministry down in Florida who work with fish and they thanked her with
brooding stock. My fish were the first generation that were born from those
    brood stock.

  6. You could set it up on a battery system recharged by solar panels. I am
looking at “Goal Zero” brand set-ups, that run around $500. It would pay
for itself after a year and a half. It would also protect you from power
    outages.

  7. You get the tilapia local or via order. I have a garage system currently
running on some bluegills I fished up and a few store bought gold fish. Im
just down the road in north AL.

  8. Has the system cycled yet? also you mentioned the tank could hold 250 # of
fish, My personal experience I would not push more than 50 fish per tank
(aka low density). I like the set up Great Job!
