Ahhhhh, such a great garden space and aquaculture! Great work! Is it your plan to raise the tilapia in the three barrel system? Are you going to attach any plants to it to reduce the nitrates?
Well my “double barrel” system in other videos certainly qualifies as “Aquaponic” but this one was only so part of the time. We didn’t show but we did grow some starter sets of veggies (lettuce and such) with floating rafts from time to time, and we constantly grew hyacinth to feed to the chickens and tilapia… so this three barrel recycling system was more aquaculture than aquaponic I suppose until I developed the other system.
is it really aquaponic if your garden isnot tied to your fish? what you have done (from what i have heard) is aquaculture, not aquaponics. good job though. how long did it take for your filter to come up to speed?

No I first used the air pump and air stones for the circulation but in the heat of the summer I decided that it needed more so I added one pond/fountain pump. It made it so much better. However, it constantly seems to get plugged every other day or so even with a screen around it. Still…the water quality was better for the fish.
The white one naturally grows algae that feeds the tilapia. I actually moved the larger ones into that the white barrel and some new “fry” went into the other blue one. The third is the “filter” barrel filled with washed lava rock. I have made styrofoam float planting rafts for them. I haven’t used them yet. I’m just floating a few hyacinth to use the nitrates at the moment.

Awesome system! Are you only relying on air pump for water circulation? Is that enough? No water pump at all?

Interesting.
Please provide an update where you explain the actual steps you took to put your raised bed garden together.
