I shall raise an army of ducks and together we shall rule the world! Muahaaaahaaahaa!
Question by annie78: Any ideas on how much raising the foundation for my house would cost?
We live in a 90 year old, 2 story home (plus basement). We are thinking about hiring someone to raise the home 2-3 feet so that the basement would be considered “usable square footage” (it’s only 6′ 6″ now). Each level of the home is 700-800 square feet. We believe the foundation is in good condition, but are pretty sure there is some settling that has occurred. Any ideas on cost, time, and problems that may occur would be greatly appreciated.

I could only give a ballpark figure and it is a guess at best. When you raise the house, it will be done in increments and 2-3 feet may be pretty high. I think the average basement is only 7 foot tall or at most 7 and a half. You will probably also need to have some metal jacks added or I-beams. Since this gets into the area of architecture and engineering, I would guess it will cost at least 10 grand. I could be way off but you will be paying for brains and specialized equipment. I wish you luck.
My sons basement is only 6’4″ and there are two I-beams supporting the house. Most of his friends will not have to duck but a few will when they go under the beams.
