I’m sorry if I misheard. But basically the reason you had to harvest the
fish so early was because the cherry tomatoes were dying? So that means in
a aquaponics system, that if the plants need to be replaced, so do the fish?
I put cray on my feeder tank where water level fluctuate a lot, they can
tolerate better than fish in this situation. Cray are quite hardy, they are
territorial so a bit tricky to put in one small tank.. put tubes cut about
1 ft length for them to crawl into reducing eye to eye contact. Other that
this problem they are quite easy to take care. Clams is a good idea on
Aquaponics, I am searching for edible fresh water snails that was abundant
in my area years ago.., have a go no harm in trying.
@halofreak4t5 Thanks for your comment, its not necessary be so. There are
many way to do it, I choose to use this approach since its the easiest and
the fish too has come to that right size in general. No need for the fish
to be replace as long as water condition is under check, as mentioned I
choose this approach and its no mean as ageneral rule to Aquaponics.
I actually have a question for you, or anyone else with tilapia. I have
some fingerlings, and they need a ton of food. You could feed them every
five minutes. So my question is: Is this normal?

Difficult to say, the problem with Tilapia if we don’t control their
numbers. The next generation will be very small and already start breeding.

Do your fish reproduce in the tank, or do you breed them someplace else?

I am located in Malaysia, so fingerling can be easily bought from a local
supplier here.
