Remember kitchen scraps and paper do not have nitrogen in them, be sure and
add green stuff now and then.
How are your worms doing? How often do you check on them? What do you do
when they have eaten everything up and they are just crawling in their own
pup?

Any suggestions for a west Texan in 90 to 100+ heat?! I have a spare room
in my house thats not used, but how bad does the bin smell? Lol ive ordered
some castings online for now and just started my garden. My first time
gardening in far west Texas! Worried about the lack of rain and heat here.
Can you use Earthworms and Red Wigglers at the same time or will it set off
a Watts Riot in worm land? I read that they burrow deeper but I have a
fairly deep worm box.
Kim and mad scientist– You dont have that many worms but in time they
will multiply and like Larry hinted you need to check just to see how
quickly they are using the food. I normally will put food in a corner and
once a lot of worms are on top of the food I go ahead and add food to the
next corner so it can be breaking down. Before you know it you will have
” the best plant food known to man” Have a great day,, Steve
I didn’t know that the worms are a special type. I also didn’t know how
nutritious the castings are.
I learn something new every day in gardening.
Thank You and the Mad Scientist for this valuable video.
I subscribed for more interesting and valuable tips.
Your videos on making a worm bin has been by far the BEST one I’ve
watched. So much information. I definitely need more worms so I can have
castings sooner, going to start another bin shortly. Thanks! Love the mad
scientist too!
The enzymes in castings is a powerful insecticide that is a near perfect
fertilizer. The book “Worms eat my Garbage” is informative and entertaining
for your Mad Scientist. Coconut Choir is my preference to start a bin
before adding other food. Worm Tea is awesome to use with astonishing
results, check it out.
Thanks for posting the video Kim. I’m trying to get all my ducks in a row
before I set one up. One question came to mind. Where should I put a worm
bin in the middle of the winter. I’m in zone 5 and it gets mighty cold in
the winter time. I’m assuming I wouldn’t be able to keep it outside!
Perhaps in the garage? Thanks again!
Kim begins her worm ranching days! 🙂 They definitely do love to eat, poop
and make baby worms that’s for certain. Have fun with it Kim and give all
of them a hug from me…..ok maybe not a hug.
Love the setup kim! I just set up 2 more so now I have 3!!! 😀 you are
going to love the castings, I cannot get enough of them. Also, the “mad
scientist” was so sweet, I love letting kids help, it really is great to
get them involved. plus the camera angles were SUPER cool!

Which do you prefer vermicomposting or composting better? Does your compost
pile decompose faster?
