Zoobic is a zoo in Subic Freeport, Philippines. Although the zoo is home to a wide range of animals, the main attraction is the tiger safari, where tigers are free to roam a large enclosed pen. Visitors ride a reinforced jeepney that goes around the pen. For Php250 (less than USD 5), the zoo keepers will feed a live chicken to the tigers. Some of you maybe offended by the pictures that follow. Please note that I am merely recording what had happened and in no way am I condoning any kind of cruelty to chickens or any type of fowl.

Question by Kenneth M: What can happen if we Feed our Puppy human food?
We have a Chihuahua & he’s about 6 months. And we’ve been feeding him human food. We bought him dog food, but my mom just feeds him chicken, turkey burger, ham burger, even potato chips & other foods.

She spends most the time with him & no matter what we say she still does it.

Can something bad come from this? can it cause worms of any kind?

thanks!

  1. It isn’t healthy for the dog to be eating foods like that. Especially smaller breeds, they have enough health problems.

Dogs diets are different from a humans. Tell your mother to keep him on the dog food any ONLY the dog food. Feeding him table foods will only spoil him and can cause behavioral problems later.

Dogs can’t taste as well as humans anyway. It’s only their sense of smell that’s heightened.

  2. It can lead to having an overweight dog with heart problems. In moderation it would be fine to feed him chicken, turkey burger and hamburger but potato chips are bad. There’s way too much salt in them.

Mostly it leads to a overly spoiled dog who won’t eat anything but people food and begs at the dinner table b/c they expect you to feed them what you’re eating. Is that the kind of behavior you want from your dog?

  3. I have 3 dogs and they eat dog & table food and they are perfectly healthy. That being said my dogs have no food allergies or stomach problems. Your dog might or might not have those problems if so then it is best to feed it regular dog food or something prescribed by the vet. I also owned a chihuahua for 13 years and all my mom ever fed him was table food. She would even cook him his own hamburgers. He would have one at least every other day and never had any problems. So if he isnt having any problems then he probably wont.

  4. Chicken, turkey and ground beef are okay for a dog as long as they are cooked without anything added – preferable boiled to eliminate lots of fat. Or, they can be fed raw as long as she does the research on that.

However, potato chips have lots of fat and salt – they are very bad for a dog and don’t provide any nutrients.

The easiest thing is to get the dog on a good quality food. I feed my Chis Wellness, but Canidae, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover’s Soul, Merrick, Blue Buffalo, Blue Wilderness, Innova, Evo, Taste of the Wild, Halo, and more are all excellent dog foods and contain all the necessary nutrients to keep the dog healthy.

If she truly wants to do right by this dog and have the dog healthy and happy well into its teens, she’ll get him on a good balanced diet.

  5. Some human food is good for dogs. Meats, fruit’s and veggies are great to give your dog, especially when they are raw. Things like potato chips and other fatty foods are not good for your dogs health and will add extra weight.

Some good things to feed your dog are:
    Apples
    Bananas
    Sweet potatoes
    raw hamburger
    Carrots
    raw beef
    raw beef bones

Some things that are not good for your dog are:
    avocados
    grapes
    turkey skin
    Chicken or turkey bones
    raisins
    chacolate

    Hope this helps!

  6. My personal opinion is that feeding a dog human food is fine… as long as it isn’t ready meals and really unhealthy things.
As it is 6 months old I would advise getting some puppy vitamins to make sure it is getting all the vitamins and nutrients it needs.
My puppy had a very sensitive tummy and hated dog food so for the first few months when we had him he had plain rice with chicken or ham etc. and puppy vitamins. Luckily we have found a dog food he likes now and one that agrees with him.

  7. YOUR DOG CAN EVEN DIE IF HE’S FEED WITH HUMAN FOOD. DOGS ARE ALLERGIC TO LOTS OF SUBSTANCES AND E’S AND THE WRONG FOOD CAN CAUSE DIFFERENT TYPES OF MALFORMATIONS BECAUSE THEY NEED DIFFERENT DOSAGES OF PROTEIN GLUCIDS SALTS FIBERS AND OTHER SUBSTANCES THAN WE DO. IT MAY LOOK ECONOMIC TO FEED HIM WITH HUMAN FOOD BUT WHEN THE DOG WILL GET SICK AND NEED LOTS OF OPERATIONS AND TREATMENTS IT WILL COST YOU 10 THE VALUE OF 10 YEARS OF EXPENSIVE DRY AND WET FOOD AND CANS. FEED YOUR DOGS WITH PET FOOD AND YOU WON’T REGRET IT. PLUS THAT THE DOG FOOD HAS AN EXTRACT THAT WILL MAKE IT’S COAT MORE SHINEY FOR A CLEANER AND HELTHYER LOOK.
