Question by Jane W: If you did not follow the news, would you know the country is in a world wide economic recession?
I I did not see all the talk about the economy being in the dumps in the news, I would think America was booming. The stores are jammed, restaurants are crowded, people are buying things and at my company business is great. We are hiring lots of people and everyone is getting a raise. If things are so bad, how come things look so good?

  1. One wouldn’t really know but you would certainly feel it and start asking question like (why is this so much?) I you are working you would certainly see other people getting the boot.

  2. I’ll be honest I don’t see it in my neck of the woods either. We have been to the mall and there didn’t seem to be any fewer people in there than normal. I did notice that there were fewer people carrying bags of purchased goods though. We went out to eat and the restaurant was packed or they were doing a good job of seating people to make us think that. No one I know has lost their job. The newspaper reports that our zip has the second highest foreclosures in the state, but there was only one in my neighborhood and it recently sold. I’m still getting just as many interest free credit card offers in the mail as I usually throw away. Hubby got his bonus, incentive and stock, heck even the free turkey give away is going on as planned. The only place I really notice an impact is at the grocery store. Eggs are up 35% since the beginning of the year, milk 30%, produce is really high, too and I am making a lot more substitutions because I won’t pay the increased prices. No more gourmet coffee for me, the store brand will have to do.
