Question by Mama: What should a toddler drink if they are lactose intolerant?
Should we go for soy milk…goats milk? Are these options available at most grocery stores?
And are they just as good for a toddler as cows milk?

I am lactose intolerant and I take pills for it which you can find at any store. When I was little I drink a lot of water and choc milk didn’t bother me

You could buy a small bottle of soy milk, goats milk and get your child to see which one they prefer. Yes, you will be able to get from any good supermarkets, like, Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys, etc. These milks may not have the same amount of calcium of cows milk but that doesn’t matter. Alpryo Soya provide yoghurts, milk, etc. that will be suitable for your child. They can also drink water with some diluted juices and some fizzy drinks. I hope this helps. Good luck.

My son drinks soy milk. I have also heard it has the same nutrients as regular milk, but not as fattening.

I would have you verify with a pediatric GI or allergist, that they are lactose intolerant. It is exceedingly rare for a child to be lactose intolerant. Most of the time it is the milk protein that is the cause of bowel distress in babies and young children. The one that works for me is Almond milk, or you can give them Alimentum (more complete and balanced for a growing child.) If it is the protein, soy contains the milk protein, as well as any products that contain whey.

Is it lactose intolerant or milk protein intolerant? My son had a milk protein intolerance and we used rice milk (plus a higher fat diet) until he grew out of it. I would not give my child soy milk, because soy mimics estrogen.
