Question by Danielle: How do i no what farm animal to get?
I need help. I want to start a little farm with all mini animals. Like the petite goat and mini cow. But i want more suggestions. And also i need a good farm yard layout.

  1. hard to say i would need more info like.. how much land do you have to work with, do you want to spend any time on training, how much do you feel good about spending per animal and for their food, would you be investing in getting your animal’s fixed/or on vet care etc etc. And i wouldn’t suggest any pedigree animal’s they are only trouble vet wise

  2. Be prepared for a lot of work. Just because these animals are smaller doesn’t mean that they require any less care.

How much land do you have available? That will probably be the biggest factor.

Goats are herd animals and you need at least two – they usually don’t do well by themselves. If you want to get miniature goats, you can get either Pygmies or Nigerian Dwarfs. Nigerian Dwarfs are slightly smaller and are a dairy breed, while Pygmies are a meat breed. Both are very friendly and make good pets.

If you want goats, you should get two does (female goats), two whethers (castrated male goats), or a doe and a whether. Don’t get intact bucks (male goats), because bucks stink and urinate on themselves.

Goats need their hooves trimmed once a month, and they need to be dewormed twice a year. They need good quality hay and fresh, clean water. They need to have access to goat mineral powder or a goat mineral block. They really only need grain if they’re pregnant or milking.

Cows need to have their hooves trimmed too, but I don’t know as much about them. Other miniature animals you could get are mini pigs, mini horses, and bantam chickens. I’m not sure if they have miniature sheep, but they might.

I suggest getting one species of animal at a time, though. Don’t rush into it all at once, or else you might find yourself overwhelmed.
