Question by Adam: Will my broad beans survIve the winter?
I live in the uk, at the beginning of august I planted broad bean seeds, A variety called the Sutton. A dwarfing variety I believe. I was wondering when the plants would begin to produce pods and if they will survive the winter? They have been flowering since October. They are outdoors in a raised bed, covered with a plastic mini cloche. Thanks in advance! 🙂

Survive, probably. Produce pods, impossible. You have them covered, so what sunlight you have is filtered, no bees to pollinate, and the sunlight hours are not long enough

Probably not, especially with this icy weather. You need to plant them much earlier in the year, just after the frosts have finished.

They will not survive the winter. Even with a mini cloche, they will eventually freeze and die. You started them too late – beans are warm-weather plants and should be grown during the summer.
