  1. Good introduction. I would also recommend the Southern Exposure Seed Exchange. They are in Virginia and have an astounding collection of seeds, most open pollenated. I would like to add that heirloom seeds were bred for taste, what a concept, rather than for the ability to resist damage due to mechanical harvesting and transportation. Keep up your new profession and thanks for your service. God Bless.

  2. I know someone that moved to the US from Siberia, where his family grew all there own food. He said the fruit and vegetables in our supermarkets are “terrible” & “have no flavor”.

  3. THANK YOU for the heads up on Bountiful Gardens! Their catalog has an amazing variety of seeds–from the usual veggies, culinary herbs and flowers to grains, oil crops, mushroom gardens, forage for the chickens and other animals, the largest variety of medicinal herbs I’ve seen and even fun stuff like broomcorn! I placed a large order with them and was pretty surprised today to receive a refund for an overage on shipping. Unheard of! The other catalogs are great, too!

  6. MP, I put together several container gardens last year for my daughter but didn’t understand the complexity of seeds and what heirloom even meant with regard to seed. She continues to extol the virtues of pure food and we have been slow to adopt. Shows the kids are always the future. Can’t wait to share with her. Thx for another great lesson. PS. Hope your 214 comes soon and and gets you closer to feeling that warmth the seeds feel.

  9. If you google “sampleseedshop” there is a lady from buffalo who grows and saves the seeds in her yard. Every seed I hav planted of hers has done great. Every order I make she’ll throw in a free seed pack or two. I do have to admit she is a friend of my wife.

  11. Sir.Greetings Sir from upstate New York Taking your advice on good quality seeds. Got seed from My Patriot Supply for now. Am going to try a Mycorrhizal Fungi on the seeds themselves. This type of fungi supports the plant’s own ability to utilize water and nutrients in the soil. Mushrooms growing along side edible herbs and vegetables. What do you think? I will keep you posted. Thanx Maine

  17. Maine! I don’t see Johnny’s on the list?!? If you’re gonna plant seeds in Maine you should totally consider Johnny’s. Why? They are in MAINE! No, I don’t work for them, but what this means is you know what they sell you will grow in MAINE.You should always try to get seeds from the region where you will be growing. Johnny’s produces their own seeds, does there own research, and tests their seeds on their own plots. What grows in Georgia or whereever, may not do well in Maine. I use Johnny’s.

  19. btw monsanto bought a bunch of small seed producers and then simply shut them down

they along with some other GMO developers have been tampering with seed banks and seed sellers trying to shut them down

  24. One thing to make sure of when ordering from a plant or seed catalog is that one is ordering something that will grow in your zone. Always check that. Also, when ordering plants, I always have better luck when ordering from a company that is located in my own region.

  25. Great VID. I have purchased seeds from Seed Savers Exchange for the last couple of years with great sucess.Growing only heirlom seeds leaves you in control of your food source, another thing is do not plant Heirlom plants anywhere close to Hybrid plants if you plan to keep the seeds for replanting the next year, many will cross polinate and you will basicaly have hybrid seeds. My family grew heirlom corn using the same harvested seeds for over 30 years until my grandfathers death in the 80s.
