Okay so there’s a bee hive on the tree literally 10 feet from my window in an apartment complex. I’ve already told my manager about it, they’re having a pest guy come out.
The problem is last night my boyfriend and I were up late, lights on, and we went to open the window for the night but stopped.
About 50 bees were running into the glass of the window!
Were they attracted by the light? Or were they trying to get into our apartment?
Please help! Pest guy doesn’t come until a week from now!

If they did not enter your home and sting you, they were not “Attacking” you. Believe me when I say that you would know if they were being aggressive or not. I grew up in Arizona when the whole Killer Bee thing started and a dog was killed a few blocks from my home… If those bees were attacking you, you would be in the hospital.
They ARE a threat to your health and safety.
You told your apartment manager, he said “Someone” would come out, they have not come out… So stop talking to the middle men and call the fire department.
Either they will send someone out or they will refer you to the department in your town that deals with these sorts of situations.
By not sending someone out IMMEDIATELY to take care of the problem, I believe your landlord is in violation of the law.
Take pictures of the hive, any bees on your window, etc. and keep those for use if your landlord tries to raise a fuss.
You don’t have to give your name to the fire department, just tell them EXACTLY where the bee hive is located and that it s a safety hazard that is threatening residents with children… Stress the kids…
They will send someone out and will either take care of it there or light a fire under your landlord’s bum.
I don’t know where you are, regionally, but I’m going to guess that they are not Africanized Bees because SOMEONE or SOMETHING would have pissed them off before now and had them attack.
To be on the safe side, whatever you do, do not swat at a bee, do not wave your hand in front of your face and try to shoo them away, do not do ANYTHING AT ALL that they will take as aggression or threat.
Literally, if you are walking to your car in the morning and a bee comes and investigates you, stand still, let her do her thing, and let her fly off on her own. If she lands on you, start to walk to your car and she will most likely get the hint and fly away but whatever you do, do not try to Shoo the bee away with your hand, that is seen as an “Attack” and causes the bee to release pheromones that call the other bees around to help.
Should that happen, immediately get in doors or in your car. If you get in your car, start the car and DRIVE. Killer Bees will chase a person up to a mile and a half but if you drive away, they can’t get you. Oh, and they will come in through the vents so if you have to choose, go either house or moving car. Don’t sit in a non moving car.
I have lived in Illinois for many years now but my childhood Africanized Bee training is still ingrained in my brain so even though I know there are no killer bees in Illinois, I just freeze and let them do their thing. I’ve never been stung and intend to keep it that way.
