Home made solar water heater. From 78 – 120+ degrees using only the sun! Part 1

I created another solar water heater. This version uses 300 feet of 1/4 inch garden tubing, and composite boards.

  1. The first box I made I recycled the windows we replaced on our house. This box I used the glass from a storm door. None have broken. I’m not sure if the ideas you suggested would work better. They might. They would almost certainly be heavier.

  2. Wouldn’t a central heating steel or even cast iron radiator be better?
I began making one but the cold weather halt my whole plans…
I think that big box you did there could house a heating body with a whole lot black surface area to heat!
Also, a 50-100 mm glass wool all around the box and the back , would improve the efficiency a lot!
As for the glass covering the box,DIDN’T IT BRAKE ?!
Or is it heat secure glass?
Normal glass is good for 30 degrees C differences, after that it brakes!

  3. nice ED, yeah i built one like that but pex inside popcans, got like 12 degree rise but i was pushing 350 gph but it was restricted so more like 100gph or so,with a walmart 12v bilge pump thru like 50ft of pex covered with pop cans, so i dont know how fast u are pushing yours…i figured my pool was 2000 gallons so at 350gph it would take about 10 hours or a couple days to cycle the pool one time and get maybe 8 or 9 degree rise cause you loose some to air above the pool etc. good job man!

  4. My first box I put in aluminum fins on Pex tubing. It didn’t work as well because the Pex was too big and didn’t absorb as much heat as I wanted. So I came up with this idea. It uses 1/4 flexible drip tubes. Check out my other video. It won’t let me reply with the link.

  6. Did you watch it all? WOW! I hope you jumped ahead. And yes, the backing where the tubes are attached is Aluminum. I bought the darkest color which was dark brown.
