Question by dobbinscorey: How can the world pull out of this economic recession?
Everyone keeps looking for the next bit of good news supporting the idea that our economic woes are over. We see constant media spin on bad and good news so as to support an unrealistically optimistic view that everything will turn around quickly. How can we expect to make educated and wise decisions when there are those who are in control of the information are trying more to influence and manipulate how people think, rather than give them the information they will need, good or bad, to make realistic adjustments to our behavior and ideas. The truth of it all, that is being constantly shrouded by distractions, and media spin, is that we have a widely unrealistic view of our economy and the problems behind it’s collapse. The biggest truth shrouded is that our system can not support the number of elitists that believe they are entitled to a greater quality of life than the rest of the community. We allow people to take the lion’s share of our resources for manipulating intangibles, or for giving us something else to thing about. We support the idea that our money should make money for us. We no longer have labor, engineering, cooperation, and agriculture as an economic base, only things to be encouraged in our working class, while simultaneously encouraging our kids not to be a part of that class. “Go to college kid. Don’t work like I did.” Bad news folks! Until these ideas are more widely understood and talked about by the general community the good news is bad news, because it represents fake, and wildly unrealistic views in control. Elitism isn’t sustainable, greed isn’t sustainable, and our economy isn’t going to be fixed by a war it is going to lead to one.

  4. Oh Please. People cannot acquire anything unless there are two parties making transactions that they consider mutually advantageous. You earn only because someone else thought what you did was valuable. The fact that YOU don’t think something is valuable, doesn’t mean someone else doesn’t or that they should be forced to accept your judgment. You can’t be “manipulated” unless you allow yourself to be.

  5. People need to be more educated. Firstly on how to make wiser choices as a consumer, such as not buying a $ 30,000 gas guzzler just after opening up a mortgage for an over sized house that you can’t afford, and second, how to make sure your money goes to the right places, like your community or the environment (if those are your concerns), and not to the Saudis.

Secondly, I think it’s time people learn how economics works before they complain about it and make poor decisions in the voting booth. If most of us had a decent understanding of the basic macro debates (fiscal and monetary policy, unemployment) and knew how markets worked as well as regulation, then I can assure that Washington, the US, probably even the whole world would be a much better place.

Of course everybody either dodges econ courses or forgets everything they’ve learned.

  6. This “why hasn’t the economy turned around” stuff is getting boring. When Obama took office, the economic experts were saying that even with the economic stimulus package from BUSH, further stimulus would almost certainly be necessary.

Most said that the economy would not begin to turn around until the spring of 2010. A very few said by the end of 2009. Correct me if I’m wrong but this is still summer of 2009 … right?

This is simply another ruse by the Republican right-wing conservatives. They totally ruined our economy with unregulated capitalism that allowed the greediest of Americans to to become richer even beyond their wildest dreams by convincing the rest of us that we’d get rich by having our 401Ks buy worthless mortgages.

The Right-wingers also spent our kid’s money on a war in a country that we attacked in response to the 911 terrorist attack. We attacked Iraq when all of the terrorists involved in 911 were Saudi Arabians. When people began to realize that, they said that Saddam was still developing weapons of mass destruction. The rest of the world said no but the right-wingers said yes. They were wrong! Then they said that the terrorists had been training in Iraq. The rest of the world said no. The right-wingers said yes. They were wrong!

So they spent almost $ 700 billion in Iraq so far and let’s not forget the 4323 American men and women who’ve died or their families who miss them dearly. And that number pales in comparison to the Americans who have been injured. Some sources claim more than 100,000 of them. And let’s beg the Iraqi people for their forgiveness for the hundreds of thousands that they’ve lost!

So if you right-wingers want to blame all of the world’s ills on Obama, I certainly can’t stop you! But shame on those of you who are buying it!

  7. Need to increase Ad, so spending money helps a lot.

And once were out of it we need to make sure it doesn’t happen again with such depth.

People need to tax hard in a boom but politicians will never do whats best for their country when people will not recognise it and they need to get voted back in.
