Nine of the twelve solar panels. This is a 1.6 kilowatt system. After the rebates and tax credits it will cost us ,500 or so. But then we can start selling back power and watching the meter run backwards.

Question by State of Panic: Solar Power and the California Property Tax Exemption?
I am doing research on solar power and the California Property Tax Exemption. I don’t fully understand what it is defining. Does it mean that if you have a qualified solar system installed on your home that you do not have to pay California Property Tax or am I interpreting this incorrectly. If I am can someone clearly define what the exact meaning of this is I would truly appreciate it. Thank you.

  1. You’re interpreting it incorrectly. It’s not that you don’t have to pay California Property Tax, it’s just that it becomes reduced as you are exempt from some tax charges, specifically relating to the Solar Power System you installed. As an incentive to switching to clean energy, California waives several power fees when you install one.

One extra thing that you didn’t ask but I feel like I should say, most Solar Power Systems are scams.

In the end, you will not be saving money, you will not be saving the environment, and you will not be happy. In order to distinguish between scams and the real deal, the real deal is payed in full by the government/government-fronted company. Scams are usually proposed as “rents” or “leases.”

  2. I don’t have a lot of experience in the tax field, but from what I understand of your question, no it would not.

KB Associates in Northridge California files my taxes for me. Its a family run business and the tax preparer working there is a professional CPA with over 30 years of experience. I would recommend contacting him if you live in the los angeles area! http://www.kbfinancial.net
