www.virtualfarmtours.ca A Canadian dairy farmer explains how he milks his cows in a Free-Stall Barn. Transcript Wilfrid- We spend many hours every day with our cows. Milking, feeding, and monitoring their health and wellness. We know them as individuals, milking twice a day provides me with an opportunity to give each cow individual attention and close observation to help prevent and detect illness. If one of my cows is sick and has to be treated with antibiotics, I mark her using a leg band and I discard her milk. Cows are creatures of habit. That’s why it’s important to maintain a consistent, orderly and calm environment in the housing and milking areas. When a cow walks into the parlor I first ensure her udder is cleaned of visible dirt and bacteria. When I milk a cow, I pre dip and wipe off the udder before attaching the milking unit. The milking unit uses soft and gentle vacuum like pressure alternating on and off to milk the cow. When the milking is over she walks out the other side. The milk goes directly from the milking unit through a pipeline to the refrigerated bulk tank in the milk house where it is cooled immediately to 4 degrees Celsius.
I did not notice that the cows are walking around in the water and drinking it. It definetely is mixed with Cow pee and Cow dung and will cause Johne’s disease among cows. Mastitis is caused because the milk rots in the under milked cows

@bohewe They should unite the calves with you. That is how it goes. Cows and goats and sheep and even Camels will get milked and u will be thinking of Calves.

@violetsan85 part 2: they r getting now. After they get this extra 50% profit they can start sharing this extra profit with me on 50-50 basis. Otherwise I’ll get nothing and I’ll come back home empty handed. If they do not believe what I’m saying I do not want them to waste my time. There is no argument. No fraud. No harm done. offer. Take your Ph.D degree and shove it in your ass if u want. I don’t want to hear about it. What is your problem. U are not a farmer who has 250 cows.

@violetsan85 U may be a Ph.D student but they teach you more about cow pee than about milk. They do not teach you about the hormone that is responsible for milk production and the one that is responsible for the release of Milk from the udder of the cow. Did they teach you that the udder of all mamals are composed of spongy tissue that begins to contract and expand when this second hormone is released. just because the udder of a cow is full of milk does not mean that this 2nd hormone is

@violetsan85 U may be Ph.D student but u know nothing about why the cows produce milk and which hormones are responsible for producing milk. I bet They teach you moreabout pee than about milk. SZomehow you go to college and get the impression that pee is milk. I do not give false knowledge. U do. You have never even touched the teat of a cow and u claim to be a Ph.D student. Read a couple of elementary biology books that tell you about the one hormone responsible for milk production and …..

I’m a pHD student meaning i already have a masters. I work in animal welfare and health. I wasn’t rude so i don’t see why you were. It must be an uneducated person thing. There is no need to be rude, just don’t give people false information either and spread the un-educated trend. Pee is not milk and the utters do not provide urine. I’m not sure where you’re getting the urine thing, *shrugs* Must be the un-educated eye of yours, the one you keep mentioning you have. But no shame in that.

@violetsan85 What a shame? U do not even know where the milk of a cow comes from. You think the pee is milk. But what is your problem? If you don’t think I know any thing about cow why not just beat it. Go drink the pee of your cows and be on your way. My comments are for people who are hungry for knowledge. Not for uneducated bums like you who work for other farmers on hourly wages.

Do you even know anything about the dairy industry? Because it really seems like you don’t have a clue. Cows don’t eat grass, not dairy cows only beef cows. Dairy cows are athletes. They’re growing a baby, milking, and growing themselves all at once. grass could never meet their energy demands. So they’re fed concentrated feeds with some hay (on good farms). No bugs. Even if they did have bugs there is nothing wrong with that. germa-phob 😛

Haha have you noticed how all the comments supporting dairy farming are rated positive and all the ones against it are negative?
I wonder if that’s “AgriComm” doing that.
Let’s see how this comment gets rated.

u r too cruel. Meat causes the the prostates of meat eaters to rot. U’d have difficulty peeing, u will have trouble having sex with young girls like oakstorm and so many things would happen to you. Most University has lectures on Prostate cancer. But your prostate does not have to have cancer for yo to say I wish I was not eating meat. But Peta does not want you to drink milk either.

THere is a better parlor than this. I forgot the address of that video. The entire steel folds on the roof after the milking is done. The entire area is free for the cows to roam about. At least that is what I think the area is for since there is nothing until it is brought down. I think it was in Denmark

u will get lots bugs in goats milk cause all they eat are leaves, They love leaves. Cows eat grass. But grass also is going to have bugs. You’ll drink digested bugs if you drink raw milk. But I drink raw milk only if I milk the cow or goat in my mouth. If I don’t have access to a cow I drink Soy milk and eat soy products. That is y Oakstorm says I/m a vegan. But we make lots of sweets with cows milk. They r not so delicious if u make with soy milk. Any way there r no sweets with soy milk.

The farmers r mis informed. The dip does not prevent mastitis. The mastitis is prevented only by keeping the udders free of milk by milking them more often than twice daily. They should be milked at least thrice and preferably four times. The exact number of times should be determined by hand examining the udders between the milkings. . Unless u hand examine the udders u do not know if the udders were emptied by first milking. Also the milk out put can be doubled ny more frequent milkings.

THe dairy people r wasting so much money dipping the teats in some shit for no reason. They do not touch the udder at all. Pressing the udders is a must. The udders must be pressed hard. to start the contraction and expansion of the udder tissue which starts the releasing of the milk. Also the cows should be lead to a second milking parlor in serial from the first milk parlor to reduce the milk retention in the udder. Also the cows should be milked four times daily instead of twice daily.
