I took a picture of you for my 365! I didn’t get many shots today, and the colors in this one make me happy, so there it is.

But really, it’s a sculpture of Dr. Seuss’ "Oh the Places You’ll Go!" I think it’s most commonly read in first grade and college graduations. D and I like to make bets (I always lose those bets with him, somehow) about whether or not we’ll hear "Oh the Places You’ll Go!" if we’re attending a graduation ceremony.

Today we went to a PBS event that was celebrating the start of the new Dr. Seuss cartoon. We got to see a sneak preview of the first episode. I thought there’d be some potential because it’s a show about science, but even though K loved it, I couldn’t really dig it – maybe because I’m not really into Dr. Seuss to begin with. And maybe it’ll grow on me.

The first episode deals with how honey is made, so along with some live music and crafts, there was a honeycomb with all the bees hanging out on it. I learned today that a bee farm place is called an "apiary." K and B were really into watching the bees work. I actually asked a few questions too because I was interested in hearing this person explain her understanding of the difference between organic and regular honey.

Beyond that, it turns out that right now, all the bees are females because the drones don’t do any work in the fall. The females get everything ready for the winter, then the males/drones eat the stored honey over the winter, and take part in the mating in the spring. Some mom made a comment about how that was just like men – not doing any of the work and just mooching off the women. Even before I had sons, I hated comments like that, and now that I’m raising my own boys to be men one day, I hate those comments even more.

Just so that it doesn’t seem like I was a complete curmudgeon today, I will say that I spent a lot of today laughing with my kids and feeling thankful for the little things that fell into place.

Question by : i need help finding a bus schedule or train or something?
I have a friend who lives in Yorktown Heights and they don’t have a car. I live in Scotchtown NY but we agreed to hang out in Middletown because of the Movie theater. How do you get from Yorktown Heights to Middletown using public transportation? If you give a stupid answer than your stupid.

  1. You could take Bee-Line 15 Southbound or Bee-Line 77 White Plains to White Plains TransCenter.
Get ticket for Shortline’s OWL Bus operated by COACH USA which takes you to Middletown Shortline Bus Terminal.

Or you may request transfer from Bee-Line bus operators and with paper transfer, you could transfer free to Tappan Zee Express and take that to Port Jervis for MTA Metro-North West of Hudson to Middletown Rd Station.

Please note, after June 17th, 2009, fare will be raise by 10% while on June 28th, 2009, Bee-Line bus fare will be increase from $ 2 to $ 2.25.
