there was a ridiculous amount of life we unearthed (and disturbed) in prepping our plot for the prototype beds for our gardensense project [1] with Green City Growers [2]

Question by sk8boardb0i: hello last night my dogs was lying down on the bed and I noticed these pink worm like things. ?
They had a whiteish ring near the top of them. They were pretty small but when I layed them out they were able to be stretched quite long. I am not sure if they were moving or not though. Any help is appreciated.
Ok I have a vet app’t set up for him in and hour. So hopefully he will be better very soon.

  5. If they were long it sounds like round worms, if they looked like rice it was tape worms. Most worm medication gets round and hook, to get tapes you need to make sure the wormer is for tapes. The dosage is on the bottle or you could go to your vet but the vet will want to see the dog, you could take a fresh stool sample in a plastic bag to the vet to have it checked to see exactly what your dog has.

  6. They are worms. I hope you washed your hands after handling them. Your vet can diagnose the species of worms from a stool sample and give the proper treatment. The worm meds from the grocery store don’t work. Tape worms require an injection, most others are in pill form. Heart worms are a bit more tricky. They can’t be seen from an external exam and require blood work to diagnose. It is pretty easy for a dog to end up with worms. Flies and fleas can both carry the eggs, and my cats are notorious for eating mice and ending up with them.

  9. Is your dog allergic to anything? Is your dog having diarrhea?

My dog used to be allergic to beef & pork. One day she somehow got hold of pig ear and she started to have diarrhea & she also got rings on her tummy next day (just like ringworm). I gave her benadryl for kids & she was good in two days. But I would definitely suggest you going to vet for proper examination because if its ringworm it could also transfer to humans.
