Where can I get electrolyte fluid for a young goat kid?

Question by Melchild: Where can I get electrolyte fluid for a young goat kid?
I have a 4 week old mini nubian buckling, and he has diarrhea, and most likley scours. I read that with diarrhea, comes loss of electrolytes, and that electrolyte fluid will rid the diarrhea, and boost a goat kid’s electrolytes. Could I buy it at a feed store?

  1. If you are in the states TSC carries several good brands as well as medication to stop scours. What age/weight is your guy? I use electrolytes and a probiotic called Pro bios if my new kids get scours. Also what color is the scours? I know this sounds nasty but it can give you an idea of what you are dealing with. Fias Co Farms web site is honestly a life saver. I use that site as a reference alot and it can better explain and give examples of what you are looking at/for. Sometimes if you cut your feedings in half and add a few feedings the scours will clear up as well. How much is he getting and how often? If you are feeding 2x a day cut those in half and add another feeding like morning noon and bedtime etc. Feel free to find me on Face Book or im me, Id be glad to help.
