Mittleider Gardening Method: Winter Garden Week 6
My Mittleider garden is growing well. This is the sixth week and second update for my winter garden here in Houston, Texas. We had a very cold and windy storm blow in. I share how well the plants fared with and without the mini greenhouse covers. It is now time to start getting your supplies together and planning your spring garden. Good move on getting the Mittleider magic mix. You’ll me amazed at how much faster, bigger and healthier your plants will be and more productive. To know what to grow in your area I would suggest you contact your local Master Gardener association or your local college agriculture extension and find out if they have a “planting calendar”. I would think you could easily grow year round in San Antonio.

Thanks for all your updates…. I just purchased two packs of Mittleider Magic Mix, I will be getting the other items in a few days. I live in San Antonio, and i’ve only grown tomatoes, squash and peppers. I really would like to grow through out the year. Is it too late to grow winter crops? I know I need to sow my seeds soon.

No worries I don’t think you killed a developing lady bug. At this stage it is red and black and has legs. Not a grey worm. Although you do bring up a good point that we need to be familiar with what lives in our gardens so we know if they are helpful or harmful insects.

A lady bug? Was it a greyish looking worm? I just killed two this wk alone. Oh! no, I hope it wasn’t. :o(

Yes, as hard as I can. I will “push” anything that I feel helps others. Self reliance is a very good thing to “push”. I hope I “push” people into understanding how important it is to plan and prepare for possible, natural, national or personal disasters. In WWII the government “pushed” Victory gardens. Everyone was on board. . Now I fear people trust the pre-stocked grocery store and that the government will take care of them. “He who controls the food controls the people.” Are you in control?

True, very true. I lived in Washington state for 12 years. I know what you mean. We have it pretty good weather wise here in Houston. That being said this Mittleider gardening method has been proven in 30+ countries for over sixty years. It truly does work all over the world in many extreme environments. Even as extreme as Seattle. 🙂

With all due respect, no one in Houston should put the word “winter” next to the word “garden”. Everyone above your border with Oklahoma are just gonna scratch their heads, and go “whatever”… You have better garden weather in December than I have in July here in Seattle…

Did ya know organic garlic cloves work this way too? I planted during early Fall and they’re doing great here in middle Ga.

Garden looks good! Thanks for the update. Having a problem getting to the Growfoods website. Tried your link as well as my bookmark. Niether worked anymore. Do you know if they are having problems? I’ve noticed several sites seem to be no longer available at my location.

Thank you for commenting. Yes, we have done that. It does work. It didn’t seem to work indefinitely but it did for a few cuttings.

Broccoli leaves are indeed edible. They are a green not a lettuce so they have a “sharp” flavor. Many people like them in “green smoothie” drinks.

All of these plants were planted by seed into the buckets. The seeds we just planted indoors were planted in planting mix. I don’t know if it is any specific type of method. My wife did them.

Sir I don’t know if you know this or not. But you purchase some green onions at the grocery store that still has the roots on them- simply replant them and you wilk never have to replant them, just cut them with at least one inch above ground and they will contine to regrow their green shoots and white onion stems.

Your garden is comming along beautifully. I covered my strawberries also and I can’t believe the amount of transpiration there was. Just two days and lots of warm moisture.
