Question by wilderness101: How take the subject of a photo and place it onto a different background on photoshop elements 8?
So……I want to submit a picture of my beautiful brown leghorn rooster to the Backyard Poultry magazine. I was able to snap several very nice poses of him, but the background image is not the prettiest. How do I take the roosters body and put it on a different background such as a snowy scene using PHOTO SHOP ELEMENTS 8? Thanks a lot!

You need to select the chicken and remove the old background. Elements has a lot of selection tools but, if you haven’t done much selecting before, the easiest thing to do would be to use the Magic Extraction Tool.

Instead of making a new layer background like they do in this tutorial, just open the background you want to use behind the chicken and use the Move Tool to click and drag the background onto the chicken. Then, over in the Layers Palette, click and drag the background layer below the chicken layer. If it won’t move, it means the chicken is still on a “Background” layer. Right click on the chicken’s layer and click “Layer From Background”. Click OK on the pop up that appears and then drag the background layer below the chicken’s layer.
